A doctor you can be honest with
Dr Emily MacDonald qualified from St Bartholomew’s and The Royal London School of Medicine and Dentistry in 2002, with a first class honours degree the year before. After qualifying, she spent several years working in anaesthetics before training as a general practitioner, a career she has sustained for over 14 years.
She came to aesthetics practically. It began as a natural extension of her clinical work, an additional skill set to offer alongside general practice. What she did not anticipate was how much she would come to value it.
Nearly ten years on, her view of this work has changed considerably. For many patients, particularly women navigating the physical changes that come with age and hormonal shift, the way they look and feel about their appearance is genuinely significant. It is not vanity. It is a quiet but meaningful part of how they feel in the world. Dr Mac takes that seriously, and she brings the same care to it as she would to any other aspect of patient wellbeing.
Her approach has always been small, subtle and kind. She has never been drawn to dramatic change. What she is interested in is helping people look like a well-rested, healthy version of themselves, using the lightest possible touch to achieve that aim. If a treatment is not right for you, she will say so.
The clinical background matters
Her years in anaesthetics are more relevant to this work than they might initially appear. Precise, careful needle work in a clinical setting gave her a confidence and dexterity with injectables that is difficult to replicate from aesthetics training alone. She is someone who has always enjoyed working with her hands and who approaches each procedure with as much care for craft as for clinical outcome.
She holds MRCGP and DFSRH qualifications, with a specialist interest in women’s health and menopause. This clinical background shapes how she understands the skin changes many of her patients are experiencing, and informs her conversations about what treatments can, and cannot, realistically achieve.
